The British newspaper Daily Mail recently interviewed nine veteran captains who have sailed the world for many years. Having traveled extensively, they each have a breathtaking destination etched in their memories. Among them are Hong Kong, Greece, Turkey, Norway, New York, Alaska, Miami, Cape Town in South Africa, and Sydney in Australia. Their reasons vary, but all share one common trait — proximity to the sea. Let’s take a look at the attractions that left these captains with unforgettable memories.

Daniel Green, captain of Star Cruises’ Seven Seas, believes it’s Skagway in Alaska. In an interview, he said that during his last visit to this port, he encountered killer whales that accompanied the ship for quite some time, making every memory of the harbor especially precious. Nikos Charlaris, captain of Louis Cruises, was captivated by the time-warp feel of Symi Island.

Among them, Geir-Arne Thue-Nilsen, captain of Silversea Cruises, loves the coastal scenery of Hong Kong. In the interview, he mentioned that Hong Kong’s city skyline is mesmerizing, and the reflections of colors and lights from the sea create a truly beautiful sight. Arnfinn Kaasbøll, captain of Hurtigruten Cruises, believes the aurora in Norway is a must-see once in a lifetime — not only is it spectacular, but its dreamlike quality is off the charts.
