Autumn and winter are the romantic seasons of bald cypress trees, sparking a nationwide craze across Taiwan. Numerous hidden scenic spots have suddenly become hugely popular. Take Jiutian Bald Cypress in Nantou, for example — with over 200 bald cypress trees and features like a swing set, its idol-drama-like romantic scenery has attracted countless tourists. However, a few days ago, the park quietly closed its gates, refusing visitors who came to pay homage.

Jiutian Bald Cypress Forest is located in Fugui Village, Guoxing Township, Nantou County. It’s actually a private residence, but the homeowner, passionate about bald cypress trees, invested millions to plant over 200 of them in their yard, along with a swing set. When winter comes and the cypress leaves turn red, the sunlight creates a poetic scene — like stepping into an idol drama.

Out of the goodwill of “sharing the blessing,” the homeowner opened the gates and allowed visitors to take photos for free. However, due to some inconsiderate visitors who were overly unruly — leaving trash and damaging the swing set — the owner once considered closing the park. When contacted, the owner stated that the park will still remain open for visitors to admire, but reminded the public to follow the rules. This isn’t the first case where a beautiful spot had to close due to being overwhelmed. Travelers are reminded to be mindful of their behavior and protect the environment when visiting hidden gems, so that these beautiful sights can be enjoyed by more people.
