The “Economic & Trade Cultural Creative Sightseeing Night Market,” located at Taichung’s old Shuinan Airport, is set to open！Covering an area of 6,000 pyeong, the night market features 700 booths and provides 700 parking spaces, along with air-conditioned five-star restrooms. Dubbed the largest night market in central Taiwan, it will distribute NT$200,000 worth of shopping vouchers on opening day.

Several redevelopment zones in downtown Taichung have completed self-initiated land readjustment projects, leaving large vacant lots that have become ideal locations for night markets. Last year, businesses established the Civic Sightseeing Night Market in Unit 2, spanning 3,500 pyeong. Though it attracted much attention, it was located in a residential area and operated illegally, leading to its demolition by the city government.

The Civic Sightseeing Night Market, which caused an uproar last year due to illegal operations, was shut down by the city government just three days after opening. The business owners made a comeback by opening a new night market in Development Zone Unit 8. This new site spans 6,000 pyeong, includes 700 booths, offers 700 parking spaces, and even features air-conditioned five-star restrooms.

Business operators stated that Taichung’s stable weather makes it perfect for night market visits. Booths were fully booked within three days of recruitment. The market includes renowned stalls from across Taiwan such as the Angry Squid from Fu Jen University Night Market, the Three-Star Scallion Pork Rolls from Kaohsiung’s Triumph Night Market, and the Alishan Railway Black Tea from Caoxiedun Night Market in Nantou. Aside from street food, there are also sections for general merchandise, clothing, and games.

The “Economic & Trade Cultural Creative Sightseeing Night Market” is located at the intersection of Zhongqing Road and Economic & Trade 5th Road. It officially opens at 6 p.m. on the 11th, with a gala evening event featuring Peng Chia-chia and Hsu Hsiao-shun recording their show “Super Night Club.” Free shopping vouchers, each ranging from NT$10 to NT$50 in value, will be handed out starting at 5 p.m., with a total value of NT$200,000.
