Taipei’s YouBike map to be completed; Donghu and Linkou MRT stations to launch this week

The map of Taipei City’s YouBike public bicycle rental stations is now set to be completed. Originally planned by the Taipei Department of Transportation in collaboration with Giant, the goal was to establish 163 rental stations across Taipei. With the official launch of the Donghu, Xihu, and Linkou MRT stations this week, all stations will be fully in place.

The introduction of YouBike has changed the commuting habits of many who use public transportation. As the number of stations continues to grow — along with the first 30 minutes being free — many residents hope to have a station near their frequently visited spots. To date, YouBike averages over 1.4 million rentals per month. To fully connect Taipei’s public bicycle network across all neighborhoods, the Department of Transportation has decided to further expand the system, focusing on areas along the Tamsui Line and the upcoming Songshan Line. The plan is to reach 190 stations by the end of the year and increase that number to 250 by next year.
