When matcha lovers spot new matcha desserts, they’ve gotta check them out ASAP~ Honestly, I’m so jealous of my friends up north with so many matcha shops to soothe their souls. I’ve been to this place, Fat Bi, several times already. Recently, I saw on A WEEK’s Facebook that they have new menu items—and they’re matcha ones, my favorite!! How could I not come and report back~

Actually, this is my third visit~ The shop is located on Wude Street, not far from Dongcai Market, with the New World Department Store Zhongshan branch on the other end of the street. It’s also not too far from Tainan Railway Station in terms of transport. This time, I noticed the shop has a new LOGO, and there are also new dishes on the menu!! Come take a look~

The interior decoration is pretty much the same as my last visit, not much has changed. The Tiffany blue walls look vibrant and lively, full of energy!! They really elevate the overall feel of the space, and the dining environment is clean and bright.

We arrived early that day. On weekends, if you don’t get to brunch spots in Tainan early, you might not get a seat or might have to wait in line. I’m a go-getter—I only decide what to eat the day before, so there’s no way I could book ahead. Better to just head out early!! For food, I can be early!! Not for work XD

While waiting for our food, let’s check out the second-floor seating area first! It continues the Tiffany blue walls from the first floor, paired with bright yellow brick-wall cubicles, giving off an overall fresh and cute vibe—something girls would love. There’s also a special section here, which happens to be the only sofa seating area in the shop~ If you want to sit at this table, better get here early!

Here’s the newly revamped MENU!Now there are not only pancakes, but also croissants and pan-seared chicken to choose from. Most importantly, the “Uji Matcha Red Bean Pancake”—I came here for this one!! The other regular pancakes are still holding their spots!! Some are even seasonal limited editions!! Most dishes come with a $50 discount when paired with a drink. The minimum spend per person is $120, and if the shop is full, dining time is limited to 2 hours.

Pan-seared chicken with balsamic vinegarAccording to the shop, this is a new dish!! The pan-seared chicken is served with a side salad. The chicken skin is golden brown and crispy, the meat is tender and juicy, with a slightly crispy exterior. The balsamic vinegar on top has a slightly sweet flavor.

Japanese pork loin croissant / black pepperThis is also a new dish—they didn’t have croissants before!! By the way, croissants have been all the rage lately~ They’re one of my favorite dishes too. Whether filled or unfilled, they each have a different charm. This time I went with pork loin with black pepper, served with fries. In terms of portion, I personally found it quite filling.

The flaky croissant is stuffed with lettuce, tomato, and pork loin, drizzled with mayo. One big bite and the flavor is quite refreshing. The pork has a slight spiciness from the black pepper, paired with the sweet mayo—I felt like it tasted a bit like shawarma. Does that description make sense XD Overall, it’s delicious. For those who don’t want pancakes, there’s another great option~

Uji Matcha Red Bean PancakeThis is it~ As a matcha lover, how could I miss this?Pancakes are also one of girls’ favorite afternoon treats! With different ingredients, the flavors and visuals vary~

Three layers of fluffy pancakes stacked high, topped with a thick layer of matcha sauce, along with whipped cream and syrup that you can drizzle on as you like. Just looking at that thick layer of matcha sauce gets my heart racing XD

Once sliced, you can clearly see the red bean filling inside. Couldn’t wait to take a bite—the pancake is soft and slightly moist, not too dry, paired with the shop’s own rich and smooth red bean paste. Overall, it’s not overly sweet, almost like it’s been reduced in sugar. The matcha sauce on top is the highlight!! It’s not too sweet, with a slightly bitter and fragrant aroma, plus the fresh scent of matcha that spreads in your mouth, bringing a sense of happiness~

Caramel macchiato coffee. Every time I come here, I love ordering a hot drink because of the cute latte art. Fat Bi is totally into that XD This latte art is of Satsuki (from Chibi Maruko-chan), also super adorable. The caramel macchiato is smooth, with the aroma of coffee and caramel coexisting.

Rose fresh milk teaThis one feels super girly!! The elegant rose aroma lingers in your mouth, giving off a fresh feeling. It’s not overly strong, and pairs perfectly with the milk tea—not too sweet.

This place has been popping up a lot on IG lately. I think their pancakes are arranged so cutely—it’s perfect for photos! And the cartoon latte art is adorable too. It’s great for going out with your girlfriends.
