Yilan’s Yellow Rocking Horse “Rocks” into Keelung – Ocean Plaza Celebrates Ghost Festival

The giant yellow wooden horse from Sanyi Township in Yilan — “Rocking Rocking Horse” — is bidding farewell to its hometown for now. Starting today, it will head to Keelung and be displayed at Ocean Plaza for 40 days, bringing a playful new charm to Keelung’s harborfront and hopefully attracting more tourists.

Standing two stories tall and weighing 4.5 tons, the Rocking Rocking Horse is 40 centimeters taller than the current Guinness World Record-holding giant wooden horse in Israel. He Binwen, the woodcraft artist who created the horse, explained that the entire structure is made of wood. To withstand the strong winds at Keelung Harbor, the base has been specially reinforced, and additional iron support frames have been added around the neck to help it resist winds of up to Force 6–7. It also features enhanced moisture-proof and anti-corrosion treatments.

Sanyi Township Office has also announced two promotional measures: first, visitors who take photos with the “Rocking Rocking Horse” during the exhibition period can collect a free scallion pancake voucher at the Sanyi Township Office; those staying at homestays in Sanyi can also enjoy a 30% discount. The township office also revealed that next Lunar New Year, the horse will return with friendly child mascots to the flower fields, giving visitors another chance to see its huge and playful figure in Sanyi.
