On the eve of a typhoon, hotel operators have turned conventional thinking on its head by launching a “Typhoon Stay Special.” The offer states: “As soon as the offshore typhoon warning for Matmo is issued, bookings will open immediately; check-in officially begins after the land typhoon warning is announced,” and the special ends once both the offshore and land typhoon warnings are lifted.

Tsai Hsin-hung, director of the Public Affairs Office at Yunglo Tourism Group, said that every summer, travelers’ plans are often ruined due to typhoons. However, it’s still possible to stay in hotels and enjoy their facilities during a typhoon, ensuring your holiday isn’t wasted. During the typhoon period, guests who book a stay under this special at the group’s hotels — Grand Formosa Regent Taipei, Silks Place Yilan, and The Grand Hotel Taipei — will enjoy complimentary Mini Bar access in their rooms, including cookies, snacks, beer, soft drinks, and playing cards. In addition, all-day dining at hotel restaurants, karaoke entertainment, and movie screenings are available. The promotional rate starts as low as NT$3,600 (approximately 40% off the regular price). Guests who have already booked other packages can also upgrade to this special on the day by paying the difference.
