As 2017 draws to a close, have you planned where to watch the first sunrise of 2018? Located in the mountainous area of Er'Liao, Zuozhen District, Tainan, this site is the closest sunrise-watching destination to an urban area in all of Taiwan. The Siraya National Scenic Area has once again organized the “Er'Liao Sunrise Event” this year. On December 31st, only 3,000 people will be allowed entry, and the public must collect tickets in advance at one of the 13 designated locations around Taiwan, then present them on the day of the event.

Situated in Zuozhen District, Tainan City, Er'Liao boasts a 360-degree panoramic viewing platform that offers one of the lowest-altitude spots in Taiwan to witness both the sunrise and sea of clouds. It’s a highly popular sunrise-viewing destination within the Siraya National Scenic Area. The ever-changing sea of clouds, set against the emerging sunlight, creates a breathtakingly stunning scene.

The Siraya National Scenic Area Administration explained that due to considerations such as limited space and transportation logistics, as well as ensuring visitor safety and optimal viewing conditions, a ticketed entry system has been implemented. The public must first obtain tickets from the designated locations and then present them at the entrance checkpoints on the day of the event. A well-planned parking lot and shuttle bus service will also be available at the Xinhua Hujv Campsite.

The Siraya National Scenic Area Administration has set up 13 ticket collection points across northern, central, and southern Taiwan. Ticket collection runs from December 11th to December 31st. The first phase involves distributing 1,000 entry tickets for the “Sun Viewing Platform,” and once those are claimed, the second phase begins, distributing 2,000 general entry tickets until they run out.
