Japanese cuisine often gives off an impression of being unaffordable, but there’s an eight-year-old Japanese eatery in Banqiao called “Sen Sushi” that not only doesn’t skimp on portion sizes, but also delivers impressively flavorful dishes. Each week, they offer different hidden-menu items, aiming to provide guests with affordable yet delicious meals. As part of a special promotion, from now until the end of January, diners can enjoy a 10% discount at any of their three branches in Banqiao, Yonghe, or Xindian by simply showing the ETtoday News Cloud app when ordering.

Bomb Sushi
This bomb sushi is made with grilled century egg, combined with mayonnaise, fish roe, and sushi rice. The smoky-flavored century egg pairs perfectly with the seaweed, and the owner says this dish was actually created as a playful staff meal, becoming one of the shop’s popular hidden-menu items—just like their grilled beef tartare.

Also part of the weekly rotating hidden menu, this dish involves searing the salmon belly first, glazing it with mayonnaise, then combining it with sugar—a rare preparation method that results in rich umami.

The restaurant sources fresh seafood daily from Keelung’s Zaiding Market. The platter is loaded with tuna, salmon, swordfish, squid, squid tentacles, grilled scallops, Argentine red shrimp, and grilled flounder fin meat, all topped with 6–7 spoonfuls of salmon roe. The owner proudly says, “Outside, a bowl like this would generally cost NT$600–700, but we sell it for just NT$450 because we personally select our catch, so our ingredient costs are much lower.”

Directly imported from Norway, the mackerel here has richer fat content than those from other regions. It’s not greasy at all and has a naturally fragrant taste.
