To boost sales, one business came up with an unusual stunt—tying in with the theme of Ghost Month in the lunar seventh month, they went all out to rent a Taipei city bus. Not only is the bus driver a zombie, but both the exterior and interior of the bus have been designed with spooky elements. On the first day it hit the road, the 28th, actors dressed as zombie passengers were also brought in, leaving those who rode this “mobile haunted house” feeling both terrified and thrilled.

When a bus with cute zombie-themed advertisements on its body slowly pulled over, unsuspecting commuters continued to line up and board as usual. But when they casually looked up, their faces suddenly turned pale—staring ahead, they realized the person firmly gripping the steering wheel was actually a zombie. It turns out that a well-known food company, in celebration of the Hungry Ghost Festival and to boost sales, specially rented the No. 249 bus and transformed it into Taiwan’s first-ever “zombie bus.” Not only are the hand straps inside decorated with yellow talismans, but the zombie driver also got fully into character, announcing stops in a slow and eerie tone, making many riders feel a mix of fear, thrill, and novelty.

The company also stated that the “zombie bus” will run from now until August 24th, when Ghost Month ends. Commuters who ride the bus and take photos to post on Facebook can receive a small gift from the company. However, Shin-Shin Bus also noted that the zombie driver will only be on duty for one day, then will “return to normal” afterward and drive as usual—only the decorations inside the bus will remain unchanged to avoid frightening passengers.
