Hongcun is located in Yi County in the southern part of Anhui Province. It was originally built by the Wang family during the Song Dynasty and was re-planned and laid out during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, adopting a bionic "ox"-shaped design. When viewed from above, it resembles the physiological structure arrangement of an ox.Nanhu Lake is the belly, the bridge is the cow’s legs, and the Moon Pond is the cow’s heart.
