Pedestrian Zone Launches in Taipei’s Gongguan Commercial District – Walking and Cycling Only on Weekends and Holidays

Taipei’s Gongguan Commercial District “Gongguan Slow Movement/Pedestrian Zone” officially launched on the 2nd, with traffic controls in place every Saturday, Sunday, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day from 12 noon to 10 PM. Visitors to the district will only be able to access five specific sections on foot or by bicycle.

The “Gongguan Slow Movement Pedestrian Zone” covers Section 3, Lane 286, Section 3, Lane 316, Alley 8 of Section 3, Lane 316, Section 4, Lane 24, and Alley 12 of Section 4, Lane 24. From August 2 to November 2, these areas will be open to pedestrians and bicycles only from 12 noon to 10 PM on weekends and holidays. After three months, the effectiveness will be reviewed and adjustments made based on merchant feedback. Due to the closures, the number of parking spaces has decreased, so the department has also designated nearby Taizixueshe, which offers 3,000 motorcycle parking spaces at a rate of NT$10 per use.

Drivers of motor vehicles and motorcycles originally planning to pass through the controlled zone are advised by the Taipei City Department of Transportation to take alternative routes such as Xinhai Road, Tingzhou Road, or Fuhe Bridge. For those originally traveling via Section 3, Lane 316 of Roosevelt Road toward Xinsheng South Road, they should instead take Tingzhou Road–Xinhai Road–Xinsheng South Road.

Drivers heading toward Section 4 of Roosevelt Road via Section 4, Lane 24 of Roosevelt Road are advised to take Tingzhou Road to Gongguan Roundabout. For users traveling from Section 4 of Roosevelt Road connected to Lane 24 toward Tingzhou Road, it is recommended to go via Section 4 of Roosevelt Road, then through Gongguan Roundabout, and then onto Tingzhou Road or Fuhe Bridge.
