Budget airlines can now offer in-flight LINE messaging: AirAsia to launch onboard WiFi service by year-end

The onboard WiFi system developed by AirAsia over five years is expected to be officially launched by the end of this year (2014). It will initially be available on all AK flights, including the Taipei-Kota Kinabalu route, before gradually being rolled out across all AirAsia Group aircraft. AirAsia will then become the first low-cost carrier in Taiwan to offer WiFi service.
According to AirAsia, 120 passengers have recently participated in a priority test of the onboard WiFi service, successfully chatting with friends and family using three instant messaging apps: LINE, WhatsApp, and WeChat. Before the official launch of the onboard WiFi service by the end of the year, AirAsia will also continue to organize free trial events.
