Hualien Jimmy Liao Hotel Creates a Family-Friendly Mural Wall – Let Your Kids Paint Freely

With rapid advancements in technology, 3C products have long replaced building blocks and toy cars, becoming many children’s favorite companions during childhood. To encourage kids to return to more natural forms of play and freely unleash their boundless imaginations, a well-known hotel has specially created Taiwan’s first large-scale family mural wall. Here, children can simply dip their fingers in paint and let loose with colorful doodles on the walls.

Hanying Hotel Hualien, renowned as the world’s first hotel infused with Jimmy Liao’s style, has this year put creative thought into action. Aiming to offer children a carefree, unrestrained natural environment, the hotel demolished the original 11 guest rooms and transformed the space into a 150-ping “Forest of Joy.” This area is divided into seven distinct recreational zones, making it the first indoor forest-themed, unplugged family leisure space in Hualien and Eastern Taiwan.

Among them, the “Joyful Drawing Zone,” featuring five large white walls, is the part of the forest where kids can scribble freely without worrying about being scolded for “drawing messily.” All they need to do is put on a smock, wear little slippers, dip their fingers in paint, and start coloring the pristine white walls however they like.

Cha Xiaoshan, General Manager of Hanying Hotel Hualien, said that at first, some children were a bit hesitant when they came in to play—only daring to draw on the wall in front of them and even being careful not to get their clothes dirty. But with guidance from staff, they gradually opened up, and eventually, the room was covered in colorful doodles. Cha said that this was exactly their goal: to let children return to their most natural state of play here.

Other zones include the “Castle Ball Pit Area,” where kids can roll around freely, the “Role-Play House Area” for dress-up and pretend play, the “Joyful Building Blocks House” for stacking blocks and sparking creativity, and the “Elementary School Multi-Function Zone” where children can DIY toys and play with upcycled furniture. There's also the “Joyful Energy Zone,” where kids can experience climbing through tree tunnel caves under the stars, and another “Joyful Energy Zone” where they can scream, run, and jump to their heart’s delight. Hanying Hotel Hualien hopes this space allows everyone to play however they want, feel more pure childlike joy, and rediscover their most authentic selves.

Additionally, Hanying has brought the concepts of sunshine, blue skies, the ocean, and fine white sand into the outdoor pool area. Accompanied by cute Jimmy Liao-themed installations, they’ve created a “Joyful Family Sandbox.” Cha Xiaoshan said they specially imported 36 tons of real fine white sand to build this beach, allowing children to build sandcastles and create their dream fortresses along the poolside.
