The job of a “travel journalist” is rich and diverse, often offering opportunities to travel around the world, filled with all kinds of challenges. However, this seemingly fun job not only requires independence and a willingness to try new things, but also frequently involves staying in various hotels alone and visiting peculiar locations, naturally leading to many unusual encounters. For this “Ghost Month when the Gates of Hell Open,” ETtoday Eastday Travel Cloud specially gathered multiple online travel journalists to unveil the ghostly experiences they’ve had – the parts readers never get to see before or after the reports.

It was during a solo trip in Vietnam. That night, I checked into a four-star hotel in Vietnam. My room happened to be at the very end of the hallway. After getting the key, I walked to the door alone. The moment I opened it, an indescribable sense of unease washed over me.Especially when I stepped into the room and saw the blanket under the bed – that eerie sight made me feel as if a million ants were crawling through my blood. There were two or three red patches under the bed. I wasn’t sure what they were, and the carpet looked as if it had been deliberately washed and scrubbed.

Seeing this, I certainly couldn’t allow myself to sleep in such a creepy space. I immediately went downstairs to tell the staff I wanted to change rooms. Even stranger, when I mentioned wanting to change rooms, the staff didn’t say a word, expressionless the entire way, simply leading me straight to another room with the key card.

Since I had changed rooms and everything seemed okay, I didn’t think much of it and went out for dinner. When I returned to the hotel and finished showering, I lay down in bed,and suddenly felt as if I wasn’t alone in the room. It was as if… as if someone was watching me. It just felt strange, extremely uncomfortable. But at that point, I couldn’t care less. I thought, “If I can just fall asleep, everything will be fine!” Anyone who has stayed in a hotel knows that after housekeeping, the beds are made with all four corners tucked under the mattress. My habit was not to pull the corners of the blanket out but to just slide my feet and body under the covers because I felt safer that way.

Just as I was half-asleep, something terrifying happened.I started feeling the blanket continuously slipping toward the foot of the bed. It kept slipping, and I kept pulling it back. In the end, I had to hold on tightly. Then suddenly, I felt the bed sink, as if someone had sat down beside me. It was absolutely terrifying. At that moment, I seemed to jolt awake from the dream. After waking up, I felt nauseous, so I stood up to go to the bathroom. Strangely, when I stepped with my left foot, the right side of my body felt cold, and when I stepped with my right foot, the left side felt cold. It was incredibly, incredibly eerie.

Not only did I throw up in the bathroom, but I also had diarrhea. In front of the sink was a large mirror. Looking in the reflection, I noticed a dark mass above my head. I looked up, but couldn’t make out what the dark mass was. At the same time, I also noticed that my reflection in the mirror had a deathly pale face. I decided to wait in the lobby until dawn, and I was certain I couldn’t stay in this hotel any longer. After it got light, I originally wanted to check out immediately, but then remembered my luggage was still in the room. Thinking that it was already morning, I decided to go back to the room to get my things. The moment I returned to the room, I felt as if someone was glaring at me fiercely. Even scarier, the sliding wardrobe near the door suddenly slid open on its own. I was truly terrified. I immediately shouted, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m leaving, I won’t come back again.”

Epilogue:
After that day, I couldn’t stop vomiting and having diarrhea. My entire trip to Vietnam was pretty much ruined. I went to ask the locals and finally found the only clinic in the area. Strangely, even though I was suffering from vomiting and diarrhea, the doctor asked me to lie face down on the examination bed, take off my pants, and then stared directly at my buttocks. Later, I asked some locals and found out that it was actually the area’s only “eye clinic.”
