Fly to the heart of global Hakka culture – Far Eastern Air launches Taichung–Meizhou route

Starting in August, Far Eastern Air will open two new direct routes from Taichung to mainland China. Today (August 18), the Taichung–Guangdong Meizhou route begins service, operated by a 165-seat MD-series aircraft, departing every Monday at 12:30 PM. Far Eastern Air will also launch the Taichung–Hefei route on September 22.
Meizhou is a well-known “Capital of the Hakka People” and the cultural center of the global Hakka community. The architecture in Meizhou also features a unique style, with classic and elegant Hakka roundhouses and enclosed dragon houses—distinctive local residences that can be considered treasures of mainland residential architecture.

At the inaugural ceremony, Zhang Ruishu, director of Taichung Airport, stated that from January to July this year, the airport’s passenger traffic has already exceeded 1.28 million, with an estimated total of over 2 million for the year. In the future, Taichung Airport aims to “surpass Kaohsiung and catch up with Songshan.”
Zeng Jinchi, strategy director of Far Eastern Air, said that the airline regards Taichung as a key hub and values the economic development of Greater Taichung. The airline plans to introduce a new fleet of 737-800 aircraft in the first half of next year to enhance its services.
