Scattered falling rocks remain in the area — Alishan Highway closed again from 7:30 PM

Alishan Highway at the 77.2 km mark was temporarily closed as a precaution yesterday due to days of afternoon showers. Although one-way traffic had resumed this morning, scattered falling rocks continue to pose risks. To ensure road user safety, the highway will be closed again as a precaution starting at 7:30 PM tonight.

The Alishan Maintenance Section of the Fifth District Highway Administration, Directorate General of Highways, stated that days of heavy afternoon rain have caused soil and rock instability on the slope above the 77.2 km mark on Alishan Highway. Although slope stabilization work is underway, ongoing afternoon showers have led to landslides and falling rocks, posing dangers to travelers. Starting at 7:30 PM today, the precautionary closure will be implemented along the section from the 77 km to the 88.5 km mark of Alishan Highway — between Shizi Village in Alishan Township and Alishan National Forest Recreation Area.

The Alishan Maintenance Section expects to reopen the road for traffic at 7:00 AM tomorrow, depending on conditions. (News source: Central News Agency)
