No Mid-Autumn Festival is complete without pomelos！ Yunlin and Miaoli hold pomelo festivals to boost sales

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, many of the essential pomelos have already been harvested. The Miaoli County Government and the Douliu City Office have organized various Mid-Autumn events to promote their local pomelos while celebrating the festive season with the public.

Pomelos in Xihu Township, Miaoli, have entered the harvest season. With around 120 hectares of pomelo plantations mainly concentrated in the areas of Dawa and Dawo in Hudong Village — the largest pomelo-producing region in Miaoli — farmers have continually improved their cultivation techniques under the guidance of the township’s farmers' association. The resulting pomelos feature delicate flesh, rich in vitamin C, with a honey-like aroma and sweetness levels exceeding 12 degrees, making them a high-quality fruit. The annual “Meet the Pomelo at Mid-Autumn” promotional event held before the festival attracts buyers from all over and has become one of the region’s most economically valuable fruits.

Venue: Hudong Community Activity Center, beside Provincial Highway 1
Activities: Pomelo tasting and quality evaluation, pomelo-peeling competition, pomelo baby ceramic painting, free Hakka rice snacks tasting. Visitors are invited to shop in Xihu Township and enjoy its pastoral scenery.

Although Typhoon Matmo brought heavy rain in July this year, fortunately, the “Big Douliu Pomelos” were unaffected and were harvested and marketed on schedule, boasting excellent quality with an average sugar content of 11–12 degrees or more. The Douliu pomelo cultivation area in the greater Douliu region (including Douliu, Dounan, and Gukeng townships) spans over 200 hectares. The trees, with an average age of over 20–30 years, produce pomelos known for their thin skin, juicy texture, and sweet, tender flesh.

Activities: Events include yarrow divination for lucky pomelos, children's sketchbook giveaways, and pomelo painting. Everyone is invited to visit Douliu for the pomelo festival — eat pomelos, play pomelo-themed games, enjoy live music, and take home premium Douliu pomelos as souvenirs.
