Promoting Tainan as a Food Tourism City: Theme Short Film Submission Campaign Kicks Off

To promote and shape the image of Tainan as a food tourism city, the Tainan City Government’s Department of Tourism has launched the “2014 Tainan Food Festival Series: Theme Short Film Submission Campaign” to warm up for the Tainan Food Festival, which is set to begin in October. The campaign aims to uncover more emotional, lifestyle, and story-driven content related to food, offering a deeper understanding of the diverse facets of Tainan’s food culture through film production and viewing.

The submission is divided into four themes: Tainan cuisine “Ice Shops,” “Blanched Beef,” “Milkfish,” and “Other Tainan Dishes.” “Blanched Beef” and “Milkfish” are among the freshest and most abundant breakfast options for Tainan locals, while “Ice Shops” document the development of local ice dessert culture in Tainan. With the tail end of summer vacation and the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival holidays, the public can visit Tainan for a food-themed trip, enjoy delicious meals, and shoot short films for cash prizes, all while helping to preserve Tainan’s unique food memories and culture.

Anyone interested in video creation or who holds a special affection for Tainan (its food or tourism) can participate. Entries must be edited into two lengths: 30 seconds and 60 seconds to 300 seconds. Any type of video equipment can be used, with a minimum resolution requirement of 1280 × 720 pixels. There are 17 awards in total, with a prize pool of NT$245,000: divided into four categories, with one Gold Award per category worth NT$30,000 each; 12 Merit Awards (not categorized), each worth NT$10,000; and one People’s Choice Award, where the winning entry will be put up for a popularity vote on the department’s Facebook fan page, with the highest number of likes and shares winning NT$5,000. Each participant may submit only one entry per theme. The submitted short films will also be considered for future promotional use related to Tainan.

The submission period for this campaign has already begun, with entries accepted until September 22. The submission date is based on the postmark, or entries can be hand-delivered to the Tainan City Government’s Department of Tourism (10th floor office at Yonghua Municipal Government Center or 8th floor archives room at Minzhi Municipal Government Center).
