Sea of clouds and city starry skies beneath your feet！The “7 Must-Visit Skywalks in Taiwan” for 2017

1. Taoyuan – Fuxing Xinxiikou Suspension Bridge
At 303 meters long, the Fuxing Xinxiikou Suspension Bridge in Taoyuan offers views of the surrounding mountain forests, as well as sights of Jiaobanshan Park and Shimen Reservoir. Scheduled to officially open by the end of 2017, it is expected to surpass Pingtung’s Shan Chuan Liuli Suspension Bridge to become Taiwan’s longest “hammock-style suspension bridge.”

2. Miaoli – Tongluo Skywalk
Taiwan’s highest cycling path, Tongluo Skywalk is a hidden gem in Miaoli that gained fame this year after drone footage went viral. Located near Jiuhuashan and nestled between the Hutou Ancient Trail and the Salt-Carrying Ancient Trail, the skywalk offers sweeping views of the Tongxiao Plain and the Taiwan Strait. In May, when the tung trees bloom, the mountains are blanketed in pure white blossoms, making it a top spot for nature lovers and panoramic views in Miaoli.

3. Nantou – Qingjing High-Altitude Viewing Walkway
Known as the “homeland of Taiwan’s skywalks,” Nantou unveils new skywalks almost every year. This year’s highlight is the Qingjing High-Altitude Viewing Walkway, which officially opened at the end of May. Situated at an altitude of 1,700 to 2,000 meters, the 1.2-kilometer walkway connects the National Guesthouse to the south entrance of Qingqing Grassland, allowing visitors to enjoy the lush greenery and the beauty of Qilai Mountain without competing with traffic.

4. Chiayi – Taiping Cloud Ladder
The Taiping Cloud Ladder, which generated buzz even before its opening, is one of the most anticipated skywalks in the second half of 2017. Perched at an altitude of 1,000 meters and stretching about 281 meters, the bridge lets visitors overlook Chiayi’s landscape and marvel at the sea of clouds. Slated to open on September 23, ticket prices will be discounted to NT$100 for general admission, NT$80 for groups, and NT$50 for half-price tickets. Online reservations will open in August, and the management office plans to limit daily visitors to 2,000 while providing guided tours to enhance appreciation of the structure and its surroundings. Once operational, it will become Taiwan’s longest suspension bridge.

5. Kaohsiung – Gangshan Eye
To boost tourism in Gangshan and Yanchao, Kaohsiung is building a new sky corridor called “Gangshan Eye,” set to open by the end of this year. Located in the Xiaogangshan hiking area, this 88-meter-long skywalk stands about 40 meters high (roughly 14 stories) and offers expansive views of the Agongdian Reservoir, Gangshan, and Yanchao urban areas, as well as distant sights of Kaohsiung Harbor and the 85 Sky Tower, with a glimpse of the North Dajia Mountain range.

6. Yilan – Rainbow Glass Skywalk
The Rainbow Glass Skywalk is the only skywalk located inside a scenic restaurant. Its entirely glass-paneled walkway extends outward, giving visitors the sensation of walking on a rainbow in midair. With unobstructed, vast views, it showcases the starry cityscape of the Lanyang Plain and offers distant glimpses of Guishan Island, making it a popular new attraction in Yilan.

7. Hualien – Omoide-no-Shironeko Skywalk
The long-awaited Omoide-no-Shironeko Skywalk in Fengbin Township finally opened in early July for trial operations. Stretching 150 meters along the mountainside, parts of the bridge feature transparent glass flooring, offering direct views of the blue ocean below. Currently, entry is free for Fengbin residents, while visitors pay NT$40 per person (parking fees extra), with a cap of around 100 people allowed in at a time.
