Abandoned Ticket Booth Repurposed: Yingge Ceramics Museum Creates Taiwan’s First Artsy “BookCrossing Station”

A brand-new arts and culture space has now emerged in front of the Yingge Ceramics Museum in New Taipei City. The museum, incorporating mosaic wall decorations, has transformed an old ticket booth beneath a large tree into a bright and airy BookCrossing station with floor-to-ceiling windows. The space also features works by international resident ceramic artists, making it the most artistically immersive BookCrossing station in Taiwan.

Lin Kuan-yu, Director of the New Taipei City Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs, stated that the project is based on the concept of reusing and sharing book resources. By repurposing the old ticket booth, it becomes the first nationwide BookCrossing station, offering an excellent platform for sharing books. Through the love of reading among the public, good books can reach even more corners.

The bookshelves at the Yingge Ceramics Museum’s BookCrossing station are designed in the shape of a large tree, symbolizing the continuous growth and vitality of ceramic art. In another corner, there is a special mosaic collage painting of wildflowers on a hillside, created by renowned ceramic artist Lin Mei-chiao. Visitors can take off their shoes and sit on comfortable sofa cushions to enjoy a pleasant reading time. Additionally, there are mini exhibitions by international resident ceramic artists, creating a uniquely Yingge ceramic art atmosphere.

The station is open year-round and features a “BookDrop Box” where the public can return or donate books even outside opening hours, which is very convenient.
