News Flash / Experience the Moon Rabbit at the Land Art Festival – Hofmann: I really want to pet it~

The Land Art Festival, held at the Taoyuan Naval Base since September 4, welcomed its first wave of holiday crowds today (September 6), with 250,000 visitors in a single day. Meanwhile, artist Florentijn Hofmann, who created the large-scale artwork "Moon Rabbit" exhibited at the festival, also personally came to Taiwan to participate in the event.

When Hofmann saw the 25-meter-tall "Moon Rabbit" lazily lying on the aircraft hangar, he joyfully said, "I want to pet it!" just like a child. In front of the "Moon Rabbit," Hofmann also struck a relaxed and enchanted pose, taking a commemorative photo with his own work.

Famous for creating the Yellow Duck, Hofmann said that after learning about the legend of the Jade Rabbit pounding medicine, he decided to create a piece that presents this heartwarming story. Although he had previously created rabbit-shaped works, the "Moon Rabbit" is the first one with "rabbit fur." These rabbit hairs are made from recyclable fibers and designed considering the wind conditions at the naval base, achieving a more realistic effect under the gentle breeze.

Hofmann also visited other artworks at the Land Art Festival with Wu Den-yih, Magistrate of Taoyuan County. He was particularly impressed by the "Black Cat" transformed from an aircraft hangar, finding it amusing how the turf on the hangar became the fur of the black cat. Hofmann also joked that although his other work, "The Hippo," is currently on display in London, the media coverage of the "Moon Rabbit" has far surpassed that of "The Hippo."

According to the organizers, in addition to appearing today, Hofmann will also personally give a talk about the "Moon Rabbit" on September 7. An autumn moon festival evening party will also be held that night, and the public is welcome to attend.
