1. Houkengkeng Waterfall
Summer is made for cooling off at waterfalls. Houkengkeng Waterfall is one of the famous 18 Scenic Spots of Lanyang. This small yet beautiful waterfall, adorned with large rocks on both sides, resembles a landscape painting. At the top of the waterfall lies a light blue pool where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Lanyang Plain and National Freeway No. 5—it’s a popular spot for sightseeing and photography. Legend has it that visiting the waterfall with someone special can help solidify your love. Be cautious while walking along the streambed as the rocks have been eroded by the water flow and there are many large boulders.

2. Little Wooden Houses on the Sky Island
Nestled in Jiaoxi, Yilan, the “Little Wooden Houses on the Sky Island” is a homestay created by a young couple. Eight colorful wooden cabins form their own little world, hidden within lush green rice fields, resembling colorful houses floating in the sky. Walk through a long corridor to find the “Colorful Water Chapel,” completed in March this year, standing on a platform over the water—a vibrant sight perfect for photos.Please note, the homestay is not open to non-guests for visits, and when taking photos nearby, be respectful and avoid disturbing the residents.

3. Anyong Shin Food Museum
When it’s too hot or rainy, head indoors. The Anyong Shin Food Museum in Su’ao, Yilan, recently opened its doors. Spanning four floors with a total area of approximately 4,600 ping, it is Taiwan’s first tourism factory combining “food safety” and “eco-friendly energy conservation.” The museum features interactive tech games, a new marine fantasy show, a Marine Fun Pavilion, a mini Anyong factory, a DIY baking classroom, and a plant factory.Admission is NT$300; children under 6, seniors over 80, and visitors celebrating their birthdays that day enter free. Yilan residents get free entry on Mondays.

4. Douzhen Lai Qitao Multimedia Fun Experience Museum
Combining a VR Education Hall, AR Education Experience Hall, and a Tech Experience Hall. In addition to crafting your own VR glasses, the highlight is the 3D graffiti aquarium—visitors draw fish on paper, which then come to life using AR technology, seemingly leaping from the page and projecting into a giant aquarium, making you feel like you’re truly underwater.During the summer vacation, out-of-town visitors can pay NT$380 for a full ticket to enjoy 7 tech experiences and also get a NT$100 discount on the Children’s Festival. There’s also a NT$150 deal to experience the three museum highlights.

5. Lockman Park
Located right behind the Sanxing Scallion Culture Museum, the former site of the Sanxing Railway Station has been redeveloped. In 2016, the township office unveiled an 8.3-meter-tall and 6.4-meter-wide yellow wobbly Lockman statue, creating a new landmark for Sanxing Township and renaming the area as Lockman Park. This year, additional themed installations such as Lockman-shaped benches, rocking toys, and seesaws, along with other painted and landscaped facilities, are scheduled to be completed by the end of July.
