Give Hermit Crabs a Home: Free “Moonlit Night Tour of Little Yehliu” Eco-Tour

The “Night Tour of Little Yehliu” event, organized by the Eastern Coastal National Scenic Area Administration, Tourism Bureau, MOTC, runs until October 31, 2017, and welcomes plant and animal enthusiasts to register for free. In addition to the most popular activities — “Nighttime Guided Tours,” “Give Hermit Crabs a Home,” and “Shell Collection” — this year also invites visitors to participate in a beach cleanup, taking action to care for Earth’s ecology and protect our environment.

The “Night Tour of Little Yehliu” offers free nighttime eco-guided tours, geological interpretation, and stargazing. “Give Hermit Crabs a Home” is the most popular nighttime activity on the East Coast, while the shell collection initiative has garnered responses from people across the country. Visitors are welcome to bring their own shells to give hermit crabs new homes, following the guides’ instructions to place them in suitable locations during the tour.

After Typhoon Nepartak severely damaged Little Yehliu in 2016, many individuals and groups voluntarily participated in beach cleanups, helping to remove trash from the coastline and rocky areas, which enabled the rapid recovery of Little Yehliu’s ecological environment. To honor the public’s goodwill, this year’s tour incorporates a beach cleanup event. Participants in both the Night Tour of Little Yehliu and the beach cleanup will receive a special mystery gift.

The “Night Tour of Little Yehliu” event runs from May 1 to October 31, 2017, accepting reservations from Sunday to Thursday for groups of 10 or more. Fixed guided tours are also available every Friday and Saturday from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
