New flower-viewing spot in Kaohsiung: Shuanghu Forest Park unveils a 20-hectare romantic terraced flower sea

Kaohsiung has a new flower-viewing attraction to explore. The Directorate General of Highways (DGH) announced on the 5th that the 2018 Lunar New Year Flower Sea project is about to kick off. Shuanghu Forest Park, which was transformed after the relocation of graves from Fudingjin, will feature vibrant flowers planted in blocks or strips. Before the second and third phases of construction begin, cosmos seeds will be sown soon. The cosmos are expected to bloom in January 2018, creating a romantic terraced flower sea spanning over 20 hectares.

The Public Works Bureau stated that this flower sea project will continue from this winter through the Lunar New Year. Key parks and green spaces in the city center will undergo enhanced landscaping using various brightly colored flowers, planted in blocks or strips to create a vibrant, multicolored landscape. The area will also be accented with poinsettias to evoke festive holiday cheer.

Beyond Shuanghu Forest Park, other districts will also add color with plants such as lantana, ixora, and bougainvillea. Beautiful flower seas can be seen in Yuanchang Forest Park, Aozidi Forest Park, Weiwuying Metropolitan Park, Wujia Park, Fengshan Park, Shuiying Park, Qishan Gushan Park, Minsheng Circle, and along the Happy River.

The Public Works Bureau plans to create a 20-hectare pink-hued flower sea at Fudingjin Shuanghu Park, where 14,800 graves have already been relocated. In the future, Shuanghu Park will primarily feature Taiwan rosewood trees as its main forestation species, helping to purify the urban air.
