As one of the most popular tourist cities in Taiwan, Tainan has in recent years become a highly competitive battleground for the accommodation and hospitality industry. Spotting the growing demand for tourism in Tainan, the Regent Tourism Group is set to join the competition. Its brand “Regent Tainan” has officially broken ground and aims to become the largest hotel in Tainan, featuring up to 350 rooms, with operations scheduled to commence in 2020.
Zhuang Fengru, Chief Operating Officer of the Regent Tourism Group, stated: “This time, the Regent Tourism Group will enter Nanshan Tainan Plaza under the brand name ‘Regent Tainan’, targeting the high-end tourism market with premium services, and creating a top-tier urban leisure resort hotel with the concept of a ‘city resort’. Covering an area of 1.69 hectares, Nanshan Tainan Plaza is designated as a market site within Tainan’s urban planning. It is close to Tainan’s Xiaobei Night Market and Chenggong Night Market, and its convenient transportation will help drive the upgrade and transformation of surrounding commercial areas.”

According to statistics from the Tourism Bureau, in 2016, the total revenue of general hotels and tourist hotels in Tainan City exceeded NT$6.4 billion. Over the past six years, both the supply and demand for accommodations have been on the rise. However, Tainan already has six tourist hotels and 236 general hotels, with specialty homestays and hotel rooms estimated to exceed 16,000 in total. Once the new hotel is completed, standing out in Tainan’s highly competitive accommodation market will be the real challenge.
