Taoyuan’s Hidden Water Wonderland: Cool Off at Ghost Waterfall and Water Curtain Cave

Ghost Waterfall, a name that sparks a bit of curiosity, is located in the “Teliiku” tribe along the North Cross-Island Highway. It’s a hidden gem known mostly to locals. The journey to Ghost Waterfall isn’t far, so if the rising temperatures are getting to you, head to Ghost Waterfall for a refreshing splash.

As for how Ghost Waterfall got its name, some say it’s because you can only hear the sound of rushing water but not see the waterfall itself. Others claim that during dry seasons, the waterfall disappears, only to reappear after rain, like a fleeting ghost. Either way, once you visit, you’ll find it’s a fantastic place to cool off and incredibly safe for a splash.

Ghost Waterfall is situated on the Taiyao Stream, a tributary of the Dahan River, and is very close to where the two rivers meet. That means you don’t have to trek through mountains and valleys for hours. From the entrance, walk down a path surrounded by a vast bamboo forest, occasionally passing small rest huts made of bamboo—walking here instantly cools you off. After about 20 minutes, you’ll start to hear the sound of water. Along the way, you’ll see three signs pointing to “Ghost Waterfall,” “Slide,” and “Water Curtain Cave”—three spots to enjoy the water. But be sure to remember: the downhill path near the first sign leads to the bed of the Dahan River. Don’t get too excited and head down there—you won’t find the waterfall there.
