According to a report by the Yomiuri Shimbun, the "Irabu Bridge," which connects Irabu Island in Ogimi Town, Okinawa, with Miyako Island, is 3,540 meters long and took from 2005 until this month’s ninth day to complete. In addition to allowing vehicle traffic, the bridge also features pedestrian walkways on both sides. Once officially opened to the public, people will also be able to cross between the two islands on foot while enjoying the breathtaking, endless blue seascape along the way... and all without paying any toll fees.

Irabu Island is located northwest of Miyako Island and has a population of about 5,500. Prior to the completion of the bridge, the two islands were connected by regular ferry services, but these are expected to be discontinued once the Irabu Bridge officially opens next year.
