Recently, Taipei has gained a highly photogenic limited-time “mobile attraction” that lets you take beautiful Instagram-worthy shots while riding the MRT. To welcome the Taipei Universiade this August, MRT carriages have received a fresh new look, featuring interior designs themed around track and field, soccer, baseball, basketball, swimming, and field throwing events. These special carriages run at fixed times each day, but spotting one of these hidden Universiade-themed carriages isn’t easy unless you’re deliberately trying to find one.

With the hot weather, the swimming pool-themed carriage has become a favorite among netizens. Creative photos taken in it frequently appear on Facebook and Instagram, and just seeing the blue pool water instantly feels refreshing.

How can you take good photos in a crowded MRT carriage? It’s recommended to focus on a small empty space near your feet to capture the illusion of stepping into a pool. Or, if you happen to have small props, you can take cute photos that resemble “a doll swimming.” When the MRT is less crowded, some netizens even go all out by wearing swim trunks, swim caps, and goggles, posing as if they’re about to dive into the water—super on point!

According to data from Taipei Metro,the Universiade-themed painted train departs from Songshan Station at 5:38, 6:57, 8:15, 9:34, 11:02, 12:32, 14:02, 15:32, 16:59, 18:18, 19:11, 20:34, and 22:03; from Xindian Station at 6:17, 7:36, 8:54, 10:17, 11:49, 13:19, 14:49, 16:19, 17:38, 19:51, 21:20, and 22:46.

If you want to photograph a nearly empty carriage, it’s recommended to wake up early and catch the first daily departure from Songshan at 5:38 or the 6:17 train from Xindian. The Universiade-themed carriages are incredibly photogenic, but while taking great photos, it’s still advised not to disturb other passengers around you.
