The Bryan Adams Tree on Brown Sugar Avenue, which was uprooted by Typhoon Matmo in July, is still in recovery after being cared for by local tree protectors and a Japanese arborist. Though it remains in the healing phase, it now faces the challenge of Typhoon Fenghuang. To prevent another collapse, the Chihshang Township Office has set up typhoon protection measures around the tree.

According to the Liberty Times, although many tourists are concerned that the Bryan Adams Tree might fall again due to the typhoon, Xinhua Village Chief Hsu Chin-hsing explained that the tree originally fell because its canopy was too large, half of its root growth space was blocked by a concrete wall, and many visitors walking around the tree trampled its roots, making it vulnerable. After being replanted, the tree's roots have more room to grow, there’s increased soil coverage, the foundation is more stable, and the canopy is not as big as before. With additional support from braces, it should be able to withstand this test.
