Typhoon Fung-wong lifted land warning; Alishan Highway and Forest Recreation Area reopen on the 22nd

Typhoon Fung-wong wreaked havoc across Taiwan over the weekend and finally left the island on the morning of the 22nd, lifting the land warning. The Alishan Highway, which had been preemptively closed late at night due to concerns about strong winds and heavy rain, also reopened for traffic this morning (the 22nd).

The Alishan Highway had been under preemptive closure for two days starting from late on the 20th. The Alishan Engineering Section stated that fortunately, there were no strong winds or heavy rains in the Chiayi mountain area, nor any reports of disasters, so it reopened for traffic at 6:10 a.m. on the 22nd. In addition, the Forestry Bureau announced that the Alishan Forest Recreation Area will open at 10 a.m. on the 22nd. However, due to the recent unstable weather conditions and the risk of falling rocks and landslides in the mountainous areas after the rain, visitors are reminded to remain cautious and pay attention to their safety when heading up the mountain.
