September 23 this year marks the“Autumn Equinox”in the 24 solar terms, signifying that autumn is already halfway over. The autumn climate in many cities across the mainland is also becoming more distinct. For those planning to visit Beijing, now is the perfect time to explore the city.

Beijing’s winters are cold and summers are hot, and spring occasionally brings sandstorms. Although autumn is the shortest season, lasting only about one to two months, the weather is cool and pleasant, with mildly chilly temperatures. Additionally, the maple leaves on Fragrant Hills gradually turn red from the end of September to November, adding a splash of vibrant color to the city. This attracts many photography enthusiasts each year, making it a highlight of local tourism.

In addition to the red leaves of Fragrant Hills, from late October to November, Beijing also enters its famous ginkgo season. Around Diaoyutai, Lama Temple, and Temple of Earth, you can witness golden ginkgo leaves slowly falling in the wind, carpeting the ground like a golden path — one of the most iconic autumn scenes in Beijing.

Today (September 23), Beijing experienced a bout of autumn rain, with temperatures dropping to 20 degrees Celsius, further deepening the autumn atmosphere. According to forecasts by foreign meteorological experts, following this rainfall, Beijing is expected to enjoy mostly sunny weather in the coming days. This year’s autumn in Beijing will be characterized by relatively warm temperatures and low precipitation, gradually transitioning into winter conditions by the end of October.
