German media recommends 18 handpicked hidden gems around the world — Raohe Night Market ranks alongside Switzerland and Paris

Taiwanese night markets make international headlines again. The renowned travel magazine“Lonely Planet”In its October issue, the German edition lists 18 globally selected hidden gems, with Taipei’s Raohe Night Market ranked 14th, alongside Switzerland, London, and Paris.

Megan Eaves, the Northern Asia editor of the German edition of “Lonely Planet,” noted in the article that under the culinary influence of China and Japan, Taiwan has developed its own unique food culture. She said the best part of Taiwan could be described as its food, expressing surprise that Taiwanese cuisine hasn’t yet gained widespread fame across Asia.

Taipei Raohe Night Marketwas chosen by Eaves as her favorite night market. A fan of squid and oyster omelets, she said the night market has become one of the must-visit spots when coming to Taiwan. She also mentioned in the article thatenjoying a beer with various types of pan-fried dumplings at Din Tai Fung is one of life’s great pleasures.。

In fact, this isn’t the first time Taiwan has been featured in “Lonely Planet.” As early as 2011,Penghuwas selected as one of the best secret islands in its 2011 Best in Travel guide. In 2012, Taiwan was also chosen as one of the top 10 best countries to visit in the world.

International media have consistently ranked Taiwan as a must-visit destination in recent years. The UK’s Metro newspaper dedicated an entire page to reporting on foreign tourists’ craze for cycling tours in Taiwan. The U.S. website Fodors listed the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival as one of 15 global festivals worth attending, and The New York Times ranked Taiwan 11th among 52 renowned travel destinations worldwide.
