Thailand’s Nok Air launches first in-flight free WiFi with speeds comparable to 3G

Thai low-cost carrier Nok Air (also known as Bird Air) announced that starting from October, it will partner with local telecommunications company Thaicom to offer free wireless internet services on its flights, making it the first airline in Asia to provide complimentary in-flight WiFi.
According to foreign mediaThe Nationreported on the 24th, Nok Air will initially install free WiFi on six aircraft, gradually expanding the service after a six-month trial period. Nok Air stated that once the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,700 meters, passengers will be able to use the WiFi to go online, access Facebook, send and receive emails, etc., with speeds comparable to current 3G internet.
Patee Sarasin, Chief Executive Officer of Nok Air, also noted that the new free internet service allows business travelers and heavy internet users to handle work or browse their desired websites during long flights, and hopes this new offering will attract more passengers to choose Nok Air.
