A New "Tropical Jungle-Themed Bar" Opens at Jiantan Station – Thick Fruit Smoothies at Budget-Friendly Prices

Shilin’s Jiantan area is a battleground for foodies. With the surge in tourists, a simple takeaway fruit juice can easily cost over NT$80, which is hard for locals like us to swallow. However, a new spot called “Jungle city cafe bar” has recently opened near Jiantan MRT Station. It offers a variety of rich fruit smoothies, all 100% freshly blended without added water, priced at just NT$130 per cup. The exotic ambiance makes it a cozy new spot to take a break while exploring the area.

Located on the bustling Wenhua Road, “Jungle City Cafe Bar” opened in June. Its second-floor dining area is adorned with flags from around the world, weathered red brick walls, vibrant graffiti, and plenty of plants, evoking the atmosphere of dining in a tropical jungle.

The owner of “Jungle city cafe bar,” Adam, is an Israeli born in the United States who has lived in Australia, Japan, and various European countries for many years. He says the wall graffiti was a collaborative effort by friends from Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and others. The mixed styles come together uniquely, showing the owner’s thoughtful design in the dining environment.

The international vibe isn’t just in the décor and space — Adam said he learned the essence of cuisines from his travels, such as adding Brazil’s Acai berries, known as “one of the world’s best superfoods,” to salads and drinks. The currently popular Acai Brazilian Smoothies blend berries, bananas, apples, and strawberries, mixed with Acai powder and honey, resulting in a rich and layered flavor. There are also tropical jungle fruit juices, all finished with a sprinkle of chia seeds — perfect for cooling down in the summer heat.

Regarding food, Adam admits he’s not yet sure how Taiwanese will receive Brazilian tacos and Argentine steaks, so for now, the focus is on Australian cheese beef burgers.
