Finally back！ New tourist highlight: The Wulai Train to reopen before the end of August

Besides soaking in hot springs, taking the Wulai Train is also a cherished memory for many visitors. The Wulai Train starts west of Lansheng Bridge and ends near Wulai Waterfall, spanning approximately 1.6 kilometers. It serves as an important tourism link between Wulai Old Street and Wulai Waterfall. The service was suspended in 2015 due to Typhoon Soudelor and is currently undergoing renovation, repair, and vehicle testing by the Hsinchu Forest District Office of the Forestry Bureau. It is expected to resume operation after testing is completed by the end of August.

The Wulai Train line was originally used to transport logging equipment and harvested timber. In 1951, with the opening of the highway to Wulai, tourists began to visit the area. At that time, the only connection between Wulai Old Street and the waterfall was the train track, so hand-pushed passenger cars were used to transport visitors to the waterfall area. Although the hand-pushed carts are no longer in use, riding along Taiwan’s only remaining train track still offers a strong sense of vintage charm. The Forestry Bureau also stated that the reopened Wulai Train will definitely ensure safety before resuming service by the end of August, and teased that the new version of the train will be a refreshing surprise for everyone.
