This “Anders Portuguese Egg Tarts” shop doesn’t actually have any branches in Macau. The owner is Taiwanese and has worked in restaurants in Macau for many years, mastering the authentic skills of making egg tarts. Speaking of Macau’s most famous egg tarts — Andrew’s and Margaret’s — the owner revealed: “I’ve compared them myself, and I think Andrew’s has a slightly better flavor, so we’re aiming for that style.” Reporters who tried the freshly baked, handmade egg tarts said they were bursting with eggy goodness, making for a very satisfying bite.

The shop features a large printed image of the “Ruins of St. Paul’s,” symbolizing the authentic charm of Macau. When talking about the painting, the owner said: “The Ruins of St. Paul’s is like Taipei 101 — if you haven’t been there, you haven’t really been to Macau. We want to show that you don’t need to go to Macau to enjoy authentic Portuguese egg tarts.”

Interestingly, the shop also offers a “secret-recipe Macanese lemon honey water,” which is commonly sold at egg tart shops in Macau and pairs perfectly with the tarts. The owner explained: “Because lemons are sour and honey is sweet, while the egg tarts are oily, this combination helps cut through the richness. One cup of lemon honey water usually goes well with two or three egg tarts.”
