“Kaohsiung Light Rail Trains” to Get Public-Selected Names for Its 14 Stations, Testing to Begin in Early November

The first circular light rail line in Kaohsiung is scheduled for online testing on November 9. To help the public better understand the route and locations of the circular light rail, from now until December 18, the Kaohsiung City Government is inviting residents to name the future C1–C14 stations set to open in the first phase. Participants in the naming campaign will be eligible to enter a lucky draw for prizes.

The Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit Bureau stated that the first phase of the circular light rail will cover a total route length of 8.7 kilometers. It will start from Kaisyuan Road, passing through Kaisyuan 4th Road and Chenggong 2nd Road, then along Sanchong 5th Road and Haibin Road, crossing the Love River Bridge to reach the MRT Xiziwan Station, with a total of 14 stations.

The bureau said it hopes the public will consider factors such as station location, surrounding characteristics, and historical memory when suggesting names. From the 18th until November 20, the MRT Bureau will accept public submissions via its official website. Afterward, a panel of experts will select three suggested names for each station. Then, from December 8 to 18, the public will be invited to vote online for their preferred names. The names receiving the highest number of votes for each station will become the official names of the circular light rail stops. The voting results will be officially announced on December 20, followed by a public lottery event.

The Kaohsiung light rail trains will be moved to Kaisyuan Road for online testing on November 9, and it is expected that static viewing opportunities for the public will also be available. Details about the naming activity can be found atthe Kaohsiung MRT Bureau’s official website.
