These aren’t takoyaki balls—they’re round little Taiwanese pancakes from Tainan that you just can’t stop eating!

These little pancake balls are actually made from batter—not takoyaki as they may appear. “Wachi Pancakes,” which moved out of Tainan’s bustling East District, has sparked a craze for these adorable round pancakes in Shanhua District. Even though it’s no longer in the city center, they often sell out early. Many people make the trip just to see the innovation and taste of these unique pancakes—once they try them, everyone exclaims, “I need another box!”

Wachi Pancakes offers drinks and two types of main items: various flavors of hand-grilled pancakes and various flavors of potato fritters. But the most popular and frequently posted item is definitely the hand-grilled pancakes. These pancakes resemble takoyaki balls in appearance—when you open the box, eight plump little round balls are neatly arranged inside. Their adorable look almost makes you reluctant to break the peaceful scene in the box!
