When you have to take a long flight, what do you do to pass the time? The U.S.-based Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) recently explored this topic by surveying 1,500 passengers from eight different countries and released the findings.

According to the UKDaily Mailreport, APEX surveyed 1,500 passengers aged 18 and above from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, China, Singapore, Australia, and Brazil. To qualify, these passengers had to have flown at least once in the past three months.

The survey results showed that Australians are the most likely to drink alcohol on flights, with 36% of them having a drink during their flight. They were followed by Americans (35%) and Britons (33%). In addition, besides using alcohol to pass the time, some Americans even take advantage of the plane reaching 35,000 feet in altitude to get some work done, hoping to boost productivity.

Travelers from the UK and Germany are the best people to chat with. According to the APEX survey, over half of the passengers from these two countries enjoy talking to others on flights—even if the person sitting next to them is a stranger.

Meanwhile, the most common thing Chinese passengers do on planes is sleep. The survey noted that after the seatbelt sign is turned off, most Chinese passengers choose to rest their eyes to recharge for the upcoming journey or play the entertainment games provided on the flight. They are also the most frequent users of in-flight credit card purchases.
