Anhui’s Jiuhua Mountain is one of China’s Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains and the sacred site of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. Located in the southeastern part of Chizhou City, Anhui Province, it faces Tianzhu Mountain across the Yangtze River to the northwest and neighbors Huangshan Mountain across Taiping Lake to the southeast. It serves as the main northern gateway and core scenic area of Anhui’s “Two Mountains and One Lake” (Huangshan, Jiuhua Mountain, and Taiping Lake) golden tourism zone. It is a national-level mountainous scenic area that combines Buddhist culture with natural and cultural landscapes, consisting of 11 major scenic zones, making it one of the must-visit destinations in a lifetime.

Jiuhua Mountain currently has 99 temples, nearly a thousand monks and nuns, and over ten thousand Buddha statues. Buddhist activities are frequent in the major temples, with morning bells and evening drums, and streams of pilgrims coming to worship. Throughout history, many eminent monks have emerged, and from the Tang Dynasty to the present, 15 naturally preserved mummified bodies have formed, five of which are available for public viewing. Jiuhua Mountain is also a masterpiece of nature, featuring competing peaks, grotesque rocks, and nine main peaks resembling nine lotus flowers, each with unique charm and grace.

Among the breathtaking sights is theNatural Sleeping Buddhaformed by continuous mountain ridges, becoming a prime example of the organic fusion of natural landscapes and Buddhist culture. The scenic area is filled with clear streams, secluded pools, waterfalls, and springs, creating refreshing and natural landscape paintings. There are also natural wonders such as sea of clouds, sunrises, rime frost, and Buddhist halos, offering ever-changing and magnificent views. The “Great Vow Cultural Park” within the scenic area, which houses the world’s tallest 99-meter outdoor bronze statue of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, is another highlight.
