When you’re traveling in Japan and need to change hotels, it’s easy to run into issues like having to drag your luggage and disrupting your itinerary, worrying about finding a locker, or dealing with bad weather such as snow, rain, or strong winds — or maybe you’re just too lazy to haul your suitcase around. That’s when using Yu-Pack to send your luggage is your best option. How do you send luggage via Yu-Pack? Just ask your accommodation for a shipping form. The hotel will ask how many pieces of luggage you want to send and then provide the forms. Of course, you can also use Yu-Pack to send other items, such as frozen or refrigerated food, fragile electronics, etc., with services tailored to different needs.

The form looks almost identical to the one used by Taiwan’s Yu-Pack. This example shows a single-item shipping form; if you have three pieces of luggage to send, please fill out three separate forms. In the green box at the top left (届先), fill in the delivery information, including postal code, phone number, address, and name. In the purple box at the bottom left (依赖主), fill in the sender’s contact details. Again, include postal code, phone number, address, and name. Just fill in the information for the hotel you’re currently staying at. On the right in the light blue box, from top to bottom, you’ll need to enter which day the luggage is being sent, the desired delivery date, what’s inside the package, and select your preferred delivery time slot.

Some hotels, if you’re sending two or more pieces of luggage, will provide more than one shipping form, so you only need to fill out one, which is much more convenient.

The filling process is similar to the single-item form. The top left (届先) is for the delivery info, including postal code, phone number, address, and name. The bottom left (依赖主) is for the sender’s contact info. Again, include postal code, phone number, address, and name. Just fill in the info for the hotel you’re sending from. On the right, from top to bottom, you’ll need to enter which day the luggage is being sent, the desired delivery date, what’s inside the package, and select your preferred delivery time slot.

After handing it to the hotel staff, they will help fill in the shipping fee and the responsible person’s (担当者) signature, give you the receipt, and collect the shipping fee. You might also want to note down the tracking number just in case — it’s the black number printed at the top right, like in the example above where the tracking number is 【759-7487-5480】. Based on the right-top experience, the cost is usually under 1,400 yen.

Next, a tag will be hung on your suitcase. It’s recommended you watch this step to ensure it’s not hung on someone else’s bag by mistake. Then you’re free to go explore hands-free and carefree.

If it’s raining, they’ll even put a rain cover on your suitcase. That’s really thoughtful — and if you don’t throw away the plastic bag, you can still drag it around in the rain. Like in Taiwan, Japanese Yu-Pack delivers almost anywhere within Japan with next-day arrival if sent early enough, though not on the same day. But right-top isn’t sure if deliveries from islands to the mainland also arrive the next day — it’s best to check if needed. But beware: right-top once went to Japan in spring, right on the last day before a consumption tax hike, and due to a huge surge in Yu-Pack shipments nationwide, a luggage that was supposed to arrive that day didn’t make it. Don’t panic — just check online to see if it was received properly.

Next up is how to track your luggage. First, go to the Yu-Pack official websitehttp://www.kuronekoyamato.co.jp/top.html— the shipping form also has the URL written on it. Enter the tracking number in the pink box on the right.

The search result will show something like this, confirming that the item was indeed received at 12:02 PM on March 28. Click on the delivery office name, then scroll down to view the office info.

You can call during business hours to inquire about the shipping status. I had the hotel staff help me with that, but they just said it would be delivered, don’t worry XD.

The next day, I checked the same website on my phone. The scheduled delivery was for March 29, but it actually arrived at 9:12 AM on March 30 — a bit late...

What we’ve just covered is how to send luggage from a hotel, but if you’re staying somewhere without a shipping service, you can also find a nearby post office or delivery branch to help send it.

First, go to the branch search page http://sneko2.kuronekoyamato.co.jp/sneko2/contents/jsp/sn2/SNTPJS0010.jsp and click 【検索画面】 (Search Screen).

You can search for nearby branches using postal code, address, or by selecting on the map.

For example, the method chosen by right-top was searching by postal code, and the nearest branch that came up was Hakata Kamigawa-machi Center.

Click on the map, and you can easily find the branch location following the directions. Up.
