Yilan’s Nostalgic and Simple Kanazawa Pork Rice – All Side Dishes Just 10 NT Each!

Although this Kanazawa Pork Rice shop mainly serves national dishes like pork rice and rpork rice, we think what makes it even more special is the English oldies playing here—haha, 70s and 80s English hits paired with traditional pork rice? Now that’s something unique!!!

This spot is located on Xihou Street in Yilan City. You might not be familiar with Xihou Street, but mention Beimen Mung Bean Soup or Garlic-flavored Meatball Soup, and you’ll know exactly where this is—it’s right in the vicinity.

Even though it’s a proper shopfront, the entrance is designed to look like a street stall, complete with long benches—probably to add a touch of warmth and familiarity!

Prices like these can definitely be called “coin-worthy.”

Hey, take a look at the walls—they’re pretty unique, right? It’s just a collage of various wooden boards, but the mix and match give off a surprisingly artistic vibe at first glance!

We ordered a few simple items.

Fried tofu for 10 NT, drizzled with soy sauce and braising liquid—simple yet delicious.

Shredded bamboo shoots – 10 NT

Mustard green soup – 10 NT

This bowl of pork rice also follows a classic old-school style, with the braising liquid carrying the aroma of fried shallots, and a slightly sweet flavor. Topped with simple sides like shredded bamboo shoots and cabbage, the rice itself is pretty good too. And the best part? The 70s and 80s English oldies playing in your ears!! Enjoying traditional Taiwanese home-style meals while listening to Western English classics—what a fun combo!!!

Haha, turns out there are people who do appreciate this combo!! It’s a humble little shop. We heard many people come here because the蒜味肉羹 (garlic-flavored meatball soup) place next door has too long a line, and they’d rather skip the wait. Though this shop is very simple, it’s still pretty nice—and a regular spot for locals nearby!!
