Robots, skydiving, ocean views from above — the ultra-luxury cruise ship Quantum of the Seas may come to Taiwan

Cruise tourism isn't booming just in Asia — it's also on fire globally. According tothe Daily Mail (Mail Online), Royal Caribbean International’s brand-new ship, the Quantum of the Seas, is longer than five Boeing 747s, has 18 decks and 18 restaurants at sea, and can accommodate 4,905 people.

Although this ship is currently only the third largest in the world,it's called a "smart cruise ship." Why? Because it's seriously cool inside — it has robot bartenders and a skydiving simulator.

The North Star is the highlight of the entire ship. It's similar to London’s Eye — this glass pod suspended from a crane allows passengers to enjoy breathtaking ocean views from 300 feet (about 90 meters) high.

What should you do first after boarding? Different decks offer all kinds of surprises.

Decks four and five feature rows of Las Vegas-style restaurants, bars, and shops — selling everything from beer and pizza to champagne and diamonds. Deck 16 houses the famous iFly — the world’s first skydiving simulator at sea — along with a five-star spa, a surf simulator, a climbing wall, and SeaPlex, the largest indoor activity space at sea, which includes bumper cars and circus acts. Deck 15 offers swimming pools, sun loungers, hot tubs, and music by the pool, with drinks available around the clock.

The interior of the ship was also built with millions of dollars, featuring up to 2,980 pieces of art, including a butterfly wall, an onboard gallery, and a 30-foot-tall stainless steel polar bear. For rooms without windows, the cruise line has specially installed “virtual balconies,” using 80-inch LED screens to stream real-time ocean views — though for an extra fee. British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s first ever onboard restaurant, Jamie’s Italian, opens here.

Although the ship is a collection of cutting-edge tech and entertainment innovations,it’s a bit of a shame that there’s no Wi-Fi on board. That’s a bummer for anyone who loves updating their Facebook check-ins.However, this globally watched cruise ship willlaunch its Asian cruises in 2015 with Shanghai as its home port, and it’s very likely to make stops at Keelung and Kaohsiung ports.
