Optimistic about Northeast Asia’s development, Boeing: Cross-strait flights to exceed 700 per week

With the growth of the economy and the low-cost airline model, Boeing estimates that between 2014 and 2033, the Northeast Asia region—including Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan—will need to purchase 1,340 new commercial aircraft, valued at over US$280 billion. The majority of these will be wide-body aircraft to meet the demand for long-haul international routes in the region.

According to Boeing, the GDP growth rate in the Northeast Asia region is expected to be 1.5% over the next 20 years, while Taiwan’s GDP growth rate is projected to remain at 3.2% annually.This economic growth rate will also drive cross-strait flights to continue increasing to over 700 per week.Therefore, Boeing expects that around 36% of future orders delivered will be used to expand the fleet size in the Northeast Asia region.

Randy Tinseth, Vice President of Commercial Marketing at Boeing, stated that wide-body aircraft remain a key demand in the Taiwan and Northeast Asia markets. It is foreseeable that the market will gradually replace older planes with more fuel-efficient, high-performance models, and the continuous expansion of long-haul international flight services will promote the development of Taiwan’s tourism industry.

Globally, Boeing anticipates investments of US$5.2 trillion over the next 20 years, with a total of 36,800 new commercial passenger aircraft to be delivered.
