Hsinchu Announces Launch of WindBike in 2015, with 10 Pilot Stations

The Hsinchu City Government announced on the 7th that it will officially launch the construction plan for the public bicycle rental system WindBike in 2015. The first phase will focus on the old urban areas within Dongda Road, Nanda Road, Xida Road, and Beida Road, with an initial setup of 10 pilot stations, to be later expanded to 30 stations.

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-pin arrived in Hsinchu City on the 7th and rode a YouBike with Mayor Hsu Ming-tsai, observing Hsinchu’s road traffic and densely populated environments. He agreed that it is highly appropriate for Hsinchu City to promote green and short-distance transportation systems. The city government stated that Hsinchu has allocated a budget of NT$20 million for next year to initiate the construction of the public bicycle rental system (tentatively named WindBike), drawing on the experience and plans of Taipei City.
