Hometown of the Four Treasures of the Study – Stepping into Xuancheng is like entering a world of poetry

Anhui Province’s Xuancheng City, regarded as China’s “Hometown of the Four Treasures of the Study,” was specifically represented by its Deputy Director of the Tourism BureauXia Hongbingwho led a delegation to Taiwan for a promotional event, hoping to give Taiwanese people a deeper understanding of Xuancheng.

Xuancheng City is represented in the cultural sphere by its Xuan paper, Xuan brushes, Huizhou ink, and Xuan inkstones, among which Xuan paper is especially well-known. In addition, the city boasts one national 5A-level scenic spot and 16 4A-level scenic spots. For example, Jingting Mountain, celebrated in the line by Li Bai, “Gazing at each other, neither of us grows tired; only Jingting Mountain remains,” is a key tourist attraction in Xuancheng.

Xia Hongbing stated that Xuancheng has a long history and profound culture. Whether it’s its ancient dwellings or the Four Treasures of the Study, they all reflect the city’s cultural richness. Since ancient times, many literati have written poems about Xuancheng, making it a place that truly exists within poetry.

Additionally, in terms of natural environment, Xuancheng features attractions such as the Longchuan Scenic Area, the Huizhou-Hangzhou Ancient Trail—one of China’s three great ancient paths—and the Taohuatan Scenic Area. Xia Hongbing pointed out that there is also the world’s only Yangtze alligator nature reserve. Visitors here can see the Yangtze alligator, a living fossil that has survived since the dinosaur era, offering an excellent opportunity for ecological education.

For those planning to visit Xuancheng, Xia Hongbing also recommends prioritizing spring and autumn trips when the climate is pleasant and comfortable, allowing visitors to enjoy Xuancheng’s bright and beautiful scenery. If traveling in summer, despite the heat, you can experience water rafting and stream trekking activities, which are known as the “Number One Drift in the Jiangnan Region.” In winter, you can also admire the beauty of snow-covered landscapes.
