Maple leaves are turning the mountains red—Alishan Scenic Area has entered the best season for autumn foliage viewing.

Alishan has now entered peak foliage season! According to the Facebook page“Alishan Amidst the Clouds”which recently released the latest foliage information, the most recommended spots for foliage viewing this week arethe triangular maples along Section 88 to 91.5K of Provincial Highway 18, and the blue maples near Sections 93K to 96K..

The Facebook page shared the current foliage conditions both inside and outside Alishan Scenic Area on the 17th: around 70% of the Taiwan red maples in front of the Taroko Visitor Center plaza have turned red, and the blue maples on the wooden walkway in front of the Alishan Hotel—one of the popular foliage viewing spots—have also reached about 70% redness. As for the Tashan Trail, Duigao Yue Trail, Mianyue Railway Line, and Mount Ogasawara, although there are no obvious red leaf views yet, they are expected to appear by late November.

Another must-see autumn spectacle in Alishan is the ginkgo trees. The Facebook page noted that the ginkgos in the scenic area are now entering their color-changing phase. Travelers looking to admire golden ginkgo leaves adorning the branches should not miss a visit to Ciyun Temple. For those wishing to take in the full beauty of Alishan’s vibrant red foliage, now through December is the best time.
