There are so many delicious foods in Taichung, and every time I come, I make new discoveries. This time, I’m taking you all to try an incredibly awesome mega submarine sandwich. Hidden in Lane 131, Section 3, Sanmin Road, North District, Taichung, “All-in Buffet” is tucked away in the alley next to Taichung University of Science and Technology. As you walk in, you’ll see a bright red building—that’s it. The name “All-in” is inspired by the Texas Hold’em poker term "all in," which means going all out, representing how the team at All-in Buffet goes all in, pouring in all their passion and effort just to serve everyone delicious meals. Aware that submarine sandwiches often have a cold image, the team at All-in Buffet decided to sell hot submarine sandwiches—these are called Taiwan Hot Subs, which you can customize to your own style. Starting with the bread, they use yeast made from a seven-day grape bacteria culture and have it baked into soft, fluffy buns. The meats are all freshly bought on the day—like the fried chicken, which uses fresh, never-frozen chicken marinated in a special batter and deep-fried to lock in the juices, resulting in super tender meat. It’s an extremely popular submarine sandwich flavor. Here, not only can you enjoy tasty submarine sandwiches, but you can also have fun DIY-ing your own combination. You can choose your preferred bread, toppings, and sauces—all up to you. Sometimes you might even discover an unexpectedly delicious combo. %The “All-in Buffet” is hidden away in Lane 131, Section 3, Sanmin Road, North District, Taichung, right next to Taichung University of Science and Technology. Walk into Lane 131 and at the turn, you’ll see a red building—that’s it.

%When you enter, you’ll first notice the steps where there are some cool murals inside. This pink door is the magic door. Just take a selfie with this magic door and you can get a self-made ice cream for just one dollar.

%Once inside, you’ll feel the cozy vibe of the place. There’s also a section with some activity areas. Their ice cream is homemade, so it melts quickly, but it’s cool and delicious. There’s also a Super Mario figure you can high-five for a photo. The chandelier above is super unique—upon closer inspection, it’s actually made of stemware, very creative and beautiful.

%As you head upstairs, the graffiti on the blackboard by the staircase is also drawn by them. How impressive is that? Then quickly head up the red stairs to the dining area.

%The upper floor has a spacious layout, and there are some little surprises you’ll find as you walk around. Walking up the stairs and looking to the left, you can see the outdoor scenery—it’s not bad. Looking down, you’ll see this birdcage man, don’t be startled.

%The place is decked out with lots of orange, giving off a very lively vibe. There are Halloween elements everywhere, making it quite festive.

%The lights shaped like muscular men on the wall are super eye-catching. You can only see the outline of the man’s face from the side. Also, the place mats on the table are self-designed, resembling foreign newspapers, which adds to the cool atmosphere.

%On the walls, there are instructions on how to order. They operate on a semi-self-service basis. Water, seasonings, and utensils are all self-serve, and the bubble drinks are all-you-can-drink. Just bring your own cup to the first floor.

%The staff are very attentive and will come around frequently to check. The space is quite large. The seasonings are all neatly arranged in baskets, and you just need to grab a basket when needed.

%Now let’s take a look at the menu. The menu is a simple single sheet with two sides. On Side A, the left side is the DIY Mega Submarine Sandwich section. Just follow steps 1–4 to fill in the codes, and you can create the submarine sandwich you’re craving. Step 5 lets you choose between a half or full set meal. Step 6’s “Good Jun Ke” had Daku stumped—he couldn’t guess what it was. It turns out it’s “good drink.” Whoa (this is a trial menu; the shop will later provide an official version for reference).

%The other side features the Good Drink section, with freshly blended fruit drinks, milkshakes, smoothies, premium teas, premium milks, German B&G floral and fruit teas, and introductions to good tea and milk, with plenty of choices.

%The Fresh Juice (around NT$140, with a NT$40 discount when paired with a submarine sandwich set) and cola. The fruit tea contains apple, roselle, rosehip, papaya, mango, passion fruit, etc., and has a rich fruity aroma, sweet and sour, with especially fragrant tea notes—rare for fruit tea to leave such a lasting impression. It’s really delicious. The cola is the bubble drink paired with the submarine sandwich set, so you can refill it unlimited times after finishing.

%We also tried their creamy soup (about NT$60), which has a pretty generous portion. We were glad we only ordered one because it’s super filling.

%The soup has a nice thick consistency, with carrots, potatoes, and onions, all well-cooked. The taste is rich, and each spoonful is flavorful. The grilled bread served with it is also great, making for a healthy and satisfying meal.

%The Salad Bowl (around NT$200) includes a variety of vegetables like broccoli, tomato, lettuce, and bell peppers, plus cheese, soft-boiled egg, and smoked salmon—rich and hearty, it’s no exaggeration to say it’s a whole bowlful. It also comes with toasted bread, making for a healthy and filling meal.

How could smoked salmon not be too salty, but soft and tender? Paired with lettuce, it’s really refreshing to eat!

The toast on the side comes with butter. Once you spread the butter on, it’s rich, soft, and chewy—you can eat it alone or with soup. After eating this, you’re already almost halfway full!

Mr. Garen (NT$230) — The name comes from the fact that the team at “All-in Restaurant 飽庫” all love playing LOL. Apparently, Garen is a powerful character in the game, and everyone loves him, so this super generous brunch is named after him. Isn’t that fun? It’s packed with German sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, sautéed wild mushrooms, fried potato cubes, toast, and a salad with sesame dressing. It’s truly an over-the-top meal!

The texture is soft and tender, and it tastes delicious. When you bite into it, it’s rich and savory. The sautéed mushrooms add a nice touch, and the grilled toast is also great. Their German sausages aren’t super bouncy, but they’re still flavorful and tasty!

Here comes the special “Love Envy Fried Chicken Submarine Sandwich” (NT$180) from Daxiang Tezai (大口特製)! The bread chosen is Earl Grey tea flavor, with toppings of peanut butter (NT$30), scrambled eggs (NT$30), and honey mustard sauce. There are also fries on the side—what a huge portion!

This is the first time I’ve seen such thick-cut fried chicken, topped with a generous layer of golden scrambled eggs, and underneath a thick bed of salad with honey mustard sauce. There’s so much filling that the bread can’t even close properly!

I was surprised by how juicy the chicken is—it’s the first time I’ve seen this. Their chicken is different from the usual kind. It seems they use fresh chicken, coat it in a special batter, then deep-fry it until it’s crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The crust is golden and crunchy, and the juices are locked inside. No wonder it’s so juicy and delicious!

The coleslaw that comes with it is refreshing. It’s tangy with a bit of crunch. It adds a light, fresh note that complements the fried chicken. It’s sweet without being cloying!

This massive submarine sandwich is so big that we struggled to figure out how to hold it. We tried for ages, but in the end, we just went for it and took a big bite for the sake of deliciousness. The fried chicken is super tender—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and the meat juice keeps dripping. The scrambled eggs are also super fresh and tender, with a strong aroma of peanut butter and the sweet taste of honey mustard. The lettuce cuts through the richness nicely, and there’s even a hint of tea flavor at the end. It’s an absolutely amazing dish!

Next up is another great option—the Tomato Cheese Bread (NT$180). The toppings are a sunny-side-up egg (NT$30), sautéed mushrooms (NT$30), and Caesar sauce. It’s also quite a big portion!

The sandwich looks so good that you can’t help but want to take a bite right away.

The sauce that comes with the sandwich is really good. It’s rich and flavorful, and the bottom chocolate cookie complements the lemony flavor really well. It’s a delicious mix of sweet and sour—a taste that girls will love, like a sweet first-love flavor!
