A Hidden Gem Even Locals in Tainan Might Not Know: The Lush Scenery of Shuangchun Coastal Recreation Area

This took me so long to finish because this newly discovered secret spot was just too beautiful—I took way too many photos. Just picking the photos took forever; the angles were all pretty similar, but it was so hard to choose XD. After adding the watermark, it still didn’t feel right—somehow the original watermark seemed too distracting for this set of photos—so I ended up redoing all of them with a new watermark. That finally looked better~ ((So nitpicky and no one would even notice that anyway XD))

I’ve lived in Tainan for over twenty years and had no idea there was such a beautiful place so close to home. I originally planned to go to Beimen to shoot the Crystal Chapel, but it was super crowded even on a weekday, so I gave up and continued along Highway 17. When I saw a sign for Shuangchun Coastal Recreation Area, I thought, “How have I never heard of this place?!” So I followed the sign all the way here. But when I got there, the main gate was closed. I was a bit disappointed, thinking I’d just happened to show up on a day it was closed. Then I noticed a small side entrance nearby, and saw two or three people coming out, so I boldly walked in to check it out.

The park is quite large, but since it’s not being managed at the moment, it has a somewhat abandoned feel. However, because it’s so rarely visited, the ecosystem here is very rich—there’s a whole expanse of mangroves, and the ponds nearby are full of fish of all sizes swimming around.

Looking at this scene, it felt like I had arrived in a tropical region. I couldn’t believe such a beautiful place had been in my hometown all along, and I had no idea.

As I slowly stepped into the mangroves along the path, it felt like I had accidentally wandered into a fairy realm. I moved cautiously, testing each step with my front foot before letting my back foot follow, worried that the path might be too worn or unstable after being abandoned for so long—I didn’t want to fall into the water and swim with the fish XD.

It felt like an adventure, my heart pounding, but my feet didn’t stop. It was very quiet—no chirping birds or buzzing insects—but the background “music” was still quite spectacular. Fish would sometimes splash around, jumping out of the water behind me with a “plop!” The mangroves towering over me stretched endlessly into the distance. Occasionally, I’d hear rustling sounds from the bushes as creatures moved around. Who knew I could have such a fresh and adventurous experience in a place I thought I knew so well?

As I walked, I suddenly turned around—and wow!! This view was too beautiful not to capture!!

There are also many ecological information signs along the path. Coming here is not only relaxing but also educational—it’s such a shame that it’s no longer being managed.

The path is quite long. I only walked a short section this day and didn’t dare venture further alone, but the parts I did walk on were sturdy and very safe.

I took so many photos here. Later, I even ran into a couple who came to take wedding photos—it was such a smart choice to shoot their wedding here!!

Going further inside leads to Shuangchun Beach. It feels similar to Anping Beach, but it’s much quieter here.

After taking photos until my shutter almost gave out, I finally put the camera down, satisfied, and started to leave. That’s when I noticed many cars driving out from the perimeter of the recreation area. Out of curiosity, I went in to take a look. And then, as I rode along, I discovered yet another stunning view~~~~><


How can it be this beautiful!!!! This spot is on the outer edge of the recreation area, even fewer people come here, so it’s like an even more secret hidden gem XD

Walk about 500 meters to the right from the entrance of the recreation area. Along the way, you’ll pass a spot that might bother your nose because of the trash due to lack of management—but hold your breath through that part, and you’ll be rewarded with this breathtaking view~~

It’s just like a scene straight out of a European or American movie!!! Backpack on your back, a bit of dirt on your face, walking forward with a tense and serious expression. ((Haha~ my imagination is running a bit wild XD))
